Route 1 - Sunbeam Loop : Starting from Access Point # 5, travel north to the top of Canoe Lake, portaging 295 meters into Joe Lake. North from Joe Lake into Teepee Lake, then north to Littledoe Lake and west into Tom Thomson Lake (1). Camp here for the night. After breakfast, head northeast into Bartlett Lake and then do the series of 4 short portages and small lakes into Sunbeam Lake (2) where you camp for the next night. On day 3, you head southeast via 4 short portages and small lakes into Burnt Island Lake (3) where you camp for the final night. On the final day you head back to Canoe Lake via Baby Joe and Joe Lake. This is an easy trip with each day being 4 to 5 hours of traveling, maybe even less. There are a number of portages but they are all relatively short.

Route 2 - Big Trout Loop : This is the route taken for the virtual canoe trip. The virtual canoe trip is set up so you can see a slide show, or you can guide yourself through pictures along the route. Both methods are set up to allow you to view the pictures as you track your location on a canoe route map. Starting from Access Point # 5, travel north to the top of Canoe Lake, portaging 295 meters into Joe Lake. North from Joe Lake into Teepee Lake, then north to Littledoe Lake and west into Tom Thomson Lake. From here you have a long portage (2320 meters) into Ink Lake and then McIntosh Lake (1) where you camp for night one. The next day you head east down McIntosh Creek (2 portages) into Grass Bay where you stand a good chance of seeing a moose or two. From there you travel through Trout Lake and into Big Trout (2) where you camp for the second night. If you have 5 days then here is where you have your layover day. You are free to fish or swim of just go exploring. The next day you travel south, up Otterslide Creek (5 portages) into Otterslide Lake and then one last portage into Burnt Island Lake (3) where you spend the last night. On the final day you head back to Canoe Lake via Baby Joe and Joe Lake. This is a relatively difficult trip (especially in 4 days) but can be done by most intermediate paddlers traveling 8 to 9 hours a day.

Route 3 - Tim River, Big Trout Loop : Starting from Access Point # 5, travel north to the top of Canoe Lake, portaging 295 meters into Joe Lake. North from Joe Lake into Teepee Lake, then north to Littledoe Lake and west into Tom Thomson Lake. From here you have a long portage (2320 meters) into Ink Lake and then McIntosh Lake (1) where you camp for night one. The next day you head north through Timberwolf Lake, Misty Lake, Shah Lake and then do a longer portage (1125 meters) into the Tim River (2) where you camp for the second night. On day 3 you paddle down the Tim River (with the current) to Shippagew Lake and then into Big Trout (3), via either Longer Lake or Blue Lake.
