Virtual Canoe Trip
Join us for an Algonquin Park Canoe trip. View pictures from an actual trip and follow the route on the accompanying map. This is as close as one can get to an Algonquin Canoe trip without actually picking up a paddle and hopping into a canoe.
The group you are joining consisted of Liana, her boyfriend Vince, two of her good friends, Jen and Richard and her father Sven. If you’re wondering about their level of experience, Liana and her father are long time trippers, Vince and Richard have been on 2 or 3 trips and Jen was a rookie. The trip took place in early July of 2005 and was a 4-day canoe trip.
The route they did is what is commonly called the “Big Trout Loop”. It started at the Portage Store on Canoe Lake, went to Burnt Island Lake, up to Big Trout Lake, over to McIntosh Lake and then back to the Portage Store. It is one of the routes described in our sample canoe trip page, only done in reverse order. Generally they started paddling between 9 and 10 am each morning and reached their evening campsite between 5 and 6 pm. They carried everything through the portages in one trip, eliminating the time required to go back for a second load.
We’ve designed the virtual canoe with two different viewing options. The slide show takes you in order through 40 selected pictures with text. The Canoe Route map accompanies the pictures with an icon showing you exactly where the picture was taken. Viewing time is approximately 5 minutes.
The self-guided option allows you to move to 40 different locations along the route and view one or more pictures from the selected location. In total there are over 110 pictures with text, for you to look at.
Enjoy your Algonquin Park Wilderness Canoe Trip
